  3. australia is a continent. It has a nature which is more beautiful. It has a best cricket team.
    (rose007, November 12, 2008, 9:36 pm)
  4. The smallest continent of the world and also the only continent that is also a country, Australia was "re-discovered" by the Dutch in the early 1600's and later on colonized by the British Empire in the late 1800's. Original settlers were the Australian aborigines – a culture and race of Australians that exist to this day. Contrary to popular belief, Sydney is not Australia's capital city - it is Canberra. Sydney, amongst Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide are mainland state capitals. The Koala (on a Eucalyptus Tree) and the Kangaroo are the two most prominent icons of this country, as well as the Sydney Opera House. Australia, officially known as the Commonwealth of Australia is a constitutional democracy with a parliamentary system of government. Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of Australia. Having a parliamentary system of government, Australia has a Prime Minister that runs the country. The incumbent Prime Minister is Kevin Rudd. The Australian Dollar is Australia’s currency. Currently, Australia is populated by 21 Million people. Although mostly Catholics, Australia is also host (and non-discriminate) to other religions.

Many well-known celebrities hail from this continent island. Some of the most prominent are Hollywood heavyweights are Hugh Jackman, Russel Crowe, Nicole Kidman and the late wildlife personality Steve Irwin. Famous bands like Inxs and Silverchair also come from this country. With the natural wonder the Great Barrier reef to the northeast of Australia, many tourist flock this area for the marine wildlife. Surfers from all over the world also go to Eastern, Southern and even Western Australia to enjoy the curls.

Most of what people see about Australia are the wildlife that inhabit Australia. Two Ornithorhynchidae (mammals that are borne from eggs) are the Echidna and Platypus. Another noteworthy feature of Australia is a small island to the south of it - The Tasmanian Island. This is the only place where one will find the Tasmanian Devil - a carnivorous marsupial made popular by the cartoon character "Taz" from Walt Disney.
