standing ovation

  1. the highest recognition one can get from audiences. it means that people were amaze and like it so much to that extent that a hand clapping is not enough to express how much they are delighted with what they saw or hear. a gesture wherein people are clapping their hands in a standing position.

The term is especially used to describe the standing applause and appreciation performers on stage or in an orchestra get from the audience. eg ' Phantom of the Opera was a brilliant performance and hence were given a standing ovation from the audience'.
